“Everyone leads different lives, depending on their surroundings, but I think queer people experience this to a greater extreme. One moment I will be walking through the Gayborhood feeling confident and comfortable and the next I find myself pulling my shorts down, making sure they’re not too short and that I don’t look too gay. I find that I’m always aware of my surroundings and the people around me, which makes it feel like there’s never a moment of rest.”
